INTRODUCTION
As of 2019, one of the globally known companies is Apple Inc. and their most popular accessory released in late 2016 were the AirPods. Gaining global attention for its wireless design, it has since been then become one of the best-selling earphones on the market. However, there are design issues in regards to these popular earphones, being that this set design and size makes these earphone “one size fits most”. The design makes it difficult for people who don’t have a “conventional” ear type to have issues trying to use them.
OVERVIEW
The purpose of the CLOUDS earphone is to up the game for wireless earphones. Tackling some of the main issues from the popular AirPods by Apple Inc. and making the impossible seem possible to provide a truly innovative design on the market.
KEY DESIGN ASPECTS
- Convenient Makeup: The small size makes it universal for everyone to use but doesn’t impact its usefulness. The material its made of is waterproof and durable so sustain wear and tear.
- Easy to Use and Minimalist: Magnetic properties make the earphones stay in place. There are no unnecessary parts and design makes it appealing to a wider market.

IN-DEPTH DESIGN
BASICS
In general, CLOUDS comes in two parts – the earpiece and the magnetic graphene disc. By adding hydrogen to the makeup of graphene (composed of carbon), graphene possess magnetic properties. This magnetism enables one of the key components of CLOUDS – staying in place on the ear.
EXTERIOR
Another design aspect of CLOUDS is its size, paralleling that of a button cell battery, AG0 in specific. Only spanning with a diameter of 5.8 millimeters and height of 2.1 millimeters, weighing a total of 0.30 grams. The shell of the earpiece would be made of stainless steel so that it is hypoallergenic. The outside will be coated with multiple layers of graphene to ensure waterproof properties. Graphene itself is stronger than diamond and therefore will sustain wear and tear from daily use.
For the graphene disc, the size will be slightly smaller than that of the earpiece because of its strong magnetic properties so that a smaller piece will still be sustainable to hold a heavier earpiece.
INTERIOR
Each earpiece will be equipped with a MEMS (microelectromechanical system) magnetic sensor. This sensor not only enhances the magnetic properties between the earpiece and graphene but also creates a forcefield. The purpose of this forcefield is for the sound projected out of the earpiece to bound off of and reflect into a space ranging 15 inches (this space size can be changed depending on personal preference). Within these 15 inches, the music from the earpiece can be heard and therefore, the msic can be heard in the other ear without a need for a second earpiece.
